How a retro runs

Four phases. Anyone can facilitate.

The board walks the team through the retro one phase at a time. Or open a Live board with no phases at all.

01

Feedback

Everyone writes cards. Private until reveal keeps each card to its author until the facilitator reveals the board; Anonymous hides names on cards, comments and votes.

02

Group

Pull related cards together so the board reads as topics, not sticky notes.

03

Vote

Five votes each by default, blind until Review. Change the budget mid-vote and everyone's remaining votes recompute.

04

Review

Talk through the top-voted topics and write the next step in the thread, with an owner and a review date. Close the retro for a summary and an export.

Formats

A format for every sprint.
Or three columns you name.

Nineteen formats are built into the board. Pick one for the mood of the sprint; each guide explains when it works and how to run it.

After the board

When the board is full of sticky notes,
interview the team.

A retro tells you what people noticed. An agent survey asks every engineer what slowed them down, follows up, and hands you the reason behind the notes.

FAQ

Questions about retro boards.

Is it really free?

Yes. Retro boards are free on every plan with no limit on boards, people or cards.

Do people need an account to join?

Participants join from a link. The facilitator runs the phases; everyone else writes cards, votes and joins the discussion.

Which formats are there?

Start / Stop / Continue, Mad / Sad / Glad, 4 Ls, Sailboat, an incident post-mortem and fourteen others, plus a three-column Custom format whose columns you rename.

Can the team stay anonymous?

Yes. Turn on Anonymous to hide author names on cards, comments and votes, and Private until reveal so nobody sees other cards until the facilitator reveals the board.

What happens after the retro?

Closing the retro gives you a summary and an export. When the board is full of sticky notes and you want the reason behind them, an agent survey interviews every engineer and hands you the answer.
