A Typeform alternative for when the answer says “fine”

Switch to ScatterSpoke if you're paying for responses and still reading “fine” and “good”: you need the why. Spoke interviews each person, asks a follow-up about what they just said, and gives you the answer with the quotes behind it. Stay with Typeform if you need designed lead forms, quizzes, deep logic, video questions or embedded flows; that's what it's built for. Classic surveys here are free and unlimited, and your first ten agent surveys are free, so you can run one question both ways before you decide.

Example · Post-event survey · the form recorded “Good, thanks” and moved on
QuestionHow was the event for you?
First answerGood, thanks. Well organized.
Spoke follows upWhat’s one moment from it you’ve told someone else about?
Real answerThe second panel, where the founder said what she’d do differently. I skipped the workshop after it because the room was too small to hear anything from the back.
What it uncovered

“Good” hides both the thing to keep (the honest panel) and the thing to fix (a workshop room too small for the crowd it drew).

The short version

Is ScatterSpoke the right Typeform alternative for you?

Typeform is a form builder with a conversational look: one designed screen at a time, logic between them, and a response count that sets your plan. ScatterSpoke is built for the answer after the form: what the person meant.

Typeform is great at
  • Forms people enjoy filling in: “conversational, beautifully-designed forms,” with colors, logos and custom domains
  • Logic on every paid plan: connect, skip and rearrange questions based on earlier answers
  • Lead capture and embeds: 300+ integrations, embed code for emails and landing pages, links and QR codes
  • Video: you record the question, people record the answer
  • AI inside the form: Creator AI builds it, Interaction AI asks a follow-up, Insights AI chats over the results
ScatterSpoke does differently
  • Spoke runs a whole interview toward a goal you set, and follows up on what each person actually said, so two people can get different follow-ups
  • You set the goal, audience, tone, topics, off-limits subjects and how deep to probe: light, standard or deep
  • Each interview fits a 5, 10 or 15-minute budget you set, in the browser, from a link, with no seat needed
  • The Agent Results Brief builds as answers arrive: themes, supporting quotes, how many people are behind each, and where people disagree
  • Classic surveys and their responses are free and unlimited on every plan; plans count agent surveys, not responses

Be honest

When to stay with Typeform

If one of these is the job, Typeform is the better tool, and switching would cost you something.

01

The form is part of your brand

Colors, logos, a custom domain, no vendor branding: Typeform’s design is the reason people pick it. ScatterSpoke’s respondent experience is a conversation in the browser, not a designed page.

02

You run lead forms, quizzes or sign-ups

A lead form that pipes into HubSpot or Salesforce, a quiz with scored outcomes, an order form with Stripe: Typeform lists 300+ integrations and logic on every plan for exactly this. ScatterSpoke is for finding out why, not for capturing leads.

03

The routing is the form

If your form branches ten ways based on earlier answers, keep it where the logic lives. Spoke follows up on what a person said; it doesn’t run a fixed decision tree.

04

You embed forms in a product or a funnel

Typeform’s embed code, drop-off rates and conversion tracking are made for a form inside a page. ScatterSpoke can embed a survey, but the interview is the point, not the conversion step.

05

You want video questions

Typeform lists video questions on its Business, Talent and Growth Flow plans: you record the ask and people record the answer. Spoke interviews in text.

Example

The same question, run both ways

In a one-question-at-a-time form, “It was good” goes into the text box, the screen slides to the next question, and “good” is what you have. In an agent survey, Spoke asks one follow-up about what the person just said, and then, if that answer is vague too, another. These are illustrative examples.

Example · Customer feedback · the form’s next screen was a 1–5 rating
QuestionWhat would make the product better for you?
First answerMore integrations, probably.
Spoke follows upWhich tool would you connect first?
Real answerOur invoicing system. Every month I export a CSV, fix the date format by hand and import it. It takes an afternoon and I’ve done it fourteen times.
What it uncovered

“More integrations” is a specific afternoon a month with a specific tool. The form would have recorded a feature request; the interview found the job behind it.

Example · Sign-up survey · the form asked, the answer was one word
QuestionWhat brought you here today?
First answerCuriosity.
Spoke follows upWhat were you doing right before you searched for us?
Real answerA thread where someone said their survey answers were useless. We get a hundred replies a quarter and I read maybe ten.
What it uncovered

The one word was the end of the form’s answer and the start of the interview’s: a person with a problem, and the words they use for it.

Switching

How to switch from Typeform in 3 steps

  1. Copy your questionsOpen your typeform and copy the questions across. If you want the same form, paste them into a classic survey: free and unlimited, with short answer, long answer, multiple choice, checkboxes, scales, star rating, yes/no and dates. Download your past responses as XLSX or CSV from Typeform first if your plan includes it.
  2. Pick the one question you most need the why forUsually it’s the open one at the end: “Anything else?” or “What would make this better?” Make it an agent survey, write the goal in a sentence, and choose how deep Spoke should probe.
  3. Send the linkShare it by link, QR code, email or embed, and turn on reminders for people who haven’t answered. Read the answer as it builds, and any conversation as a transcript.
FAQ

Common questions.

Is there a free Typeform alternative?

Yes. On ScatterSpoke, classic surveys and their responses are free and unlimited on every plan, and your first ten agent surveys, where Spoke interviews each person and follows up, are free too.

Is Typeform free?

Typeform’s pricing page lists a free account with a limited number of responses per month; the number isn’t on the pricing page. Paid plans start with Basic at 100 responses a month for one user.

How much does Typeform cost?

As listed on its pricing page on September 27, 2026: Basic 39 USD a month (28 USD a month billed yearly), Plus 79 USD (56 yearly), Business 129 USD (91 yearly), Talent 169 USD (119 yearly), Growth Flow 379 USD (266 yearly), and Enterprise on request. Each plan includes a set number of responses a month; add-ons raise it.

What is cheaper than Typeform?

For a plain form, ScatterSpoke’s classic surveys cost nothing and have no response limit. For the why behind the answers, an agent survey interviews each person; the first ten are free and paid plans count surveys a month, not responses.

Does Typeform ask follow-up questions?

Typeform’s product page says Interaction AI asks relevant follow-up questions, and its pricing page lists “Clarify with AI” on Plus and above, not Basic. The difference with ScatterSpoke is the scope: Spoke runs the whole interview toward a goal you set, with topics, probe depth and a time budget, and the Agent Results Brief shows how many people are behind each theme and where they disagree.

Does ScatterSpoke have conversational forms?

Agent surveys are a conversation run by an interviewer, Spoke, in the browser. Classic surveys are fixed questions you write, with nine answer types and an NPS preset. Neither is a designed, branded form in Typeform’s sense.

Can I import my Typeform forms into ScatterSpoke?

There’s no documented importer. Copy the questions into a classic survey, or turn the one you most need the why for into an agent survey. Export your past responses from Typeform first so you keep them.
